Help us, give them, the best start

Being involved in our annual Cocktail Party is more than being a sponsor, you could change someone’s life in Hawke’s Bay.

More than a Rotary Club, Hastings Karamu Rotary is about building a stronger Hawke’s Bay. Each year the we donate upwards of $80,000 back to the Hawke’s Bay community through our community and youth initiatives.

We are extremely proud of our partnership with the Hawke’s Bay community, our largest partnership is our Annual Cocktail Party, which has enabled significant financial support from sponsors, donors and attendees over 26 years. We acknowledge and appreciate the generous financial support received from them, and across the Hawke’s Bay community, with our annual event having become one of the most enjoyable occasions on the social calendar.

We are proud to announce a partnership with the Hawkes Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust and our first Cocktail Party for them last year raised over $100,000 to help improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Hawke's Bay.

The Club is focused on improving opportunities for the people of Hawke’s Bay and our fundraising will help ensure all school children have the opportunity to attend, learn and challenge themselves. The Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust ticks all our boxes.

Key Hastings Karamu Rotary Club fundraising initiatives:

    • Raised over $2 million for the Hawke’s Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust
    • Founding supporter of the Hawke’s Bay Pathways Project
    • Each year we contributed to Hawke’s Bay School Children’s fundraising initiatives for sport and leadership
    • Proud supporter of Bikes in Schools.

This year’s Cocktail Party will be held on Friday 26th July 2019 at the Peak Vision Church in Havelock North.

It will be the 28th year that the fundraising event has been held to benefit the Hawke’s Bay community and it promises to be the most exciting yet.

The event is Hawke’s Bay’s premier charity auction with over 500 people attending every year.

Be the best you can be

The purpose of the Sir Graeme Avery led Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust is to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of Hawke’s Bay through the provision of:

    • a multi-purpose facility (indoor and outdoor), the Hawke’s Bay Institute of Sport & Health, at the Regional Sports Park in which sports, fitness and other community activities will be undertaken to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles;
    • healthy lifestyle programmes and activities including healthy eating and physical literacy education programmes
    • sports performance development programmes for schools and local sports groups.

The partnership with Karamu Hastings Rotary Club will help the Trust to raise funds to ‘Change Lives’ by giving all underprivileged children and their whole family in Hawke’s Bay a unique opportunity to become involved in healthy lifestyles and sports programmes, which through achievement of goals, will lead to enhanced self and community pride and connectivity.

A Centre of Excellence in Human Performance

Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust vision is to establish a world class sports and recreation hub and community health centre at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park – the Hawkes Bay Institute of Sport & Health – as a Centre of Excellence in Human Performance, by supporting all age groups across the Hawke’s Bay region in community health and fitness, school sports development, community sport along with sports and health science research.
To promote its programmes, the facility will include an indoor community sports & recreation hall, strength and conditioning gym for sports and wellness development, community health & fitness gym, sprint track for speed & fitness testing, community fitness trail, wellness tutorial rooms, a sports medicine centre and an onsite accommodation hostel.

Transformational Community Health and Sports Performance Outcomes

It will be a transformational project for enhancing human performance excellence, with special programmes for:

    • The whole community, from encouraging health and wellbeing for all ages through to sports and recreation development in schools and clubs
    • Across the whole Hawke’s Bay region from Central Hawke’s Bay, Hastings and Napier to Wairoa.

To achieve this vision, programmes from the world leading AUT University, AUT Millennium in Auckland and nationally top ranked EIT in collaboration with the Hawke’s Bay District Health Board and Sport Hawke’s Bay, will include:

    • Education to encourage healthy eating and physical activity, from pre-school through to the elderly
    • Training and guidance to schools and sports groups on healthy lifestyles, physical literacy and sports performance development.

    Success Together

The programmes are all research-led and specific to the groups to which they apply. EIT brings a leading national reputation and experience as a leader in programmes for youth at risk, alongside their highly successful partnerships with the regions’ secondary schools. The programmes of the Hawke’s Bay Community Fitness Centre Trust operate in a different space and will supplement the more general programmes of Sport Hawke’s Bay.
